We offer a useful, online beginners English language dictionary. Linguists have discovered that there are about 1,500 basic words essential for survival in any modern language. Some call this the Global English list of essential words. We have provided a definition for each of these essential words in plain language that can be understood by most beginning students of the English language. To illustrate the use of each of these essential words, we have also provided an example sentence.
